Hello everyone, Animeman73 here. Once again, it’s time for the Roll of the Dice challenge. This one will be unique, my wonderful girlfriend volunteered to be part of this. Peach Wookiee, as she goes by on the Internet, got rolled up at the number 5.

The Genre she chose was Historical Fiction, the word she chose was Love.

And so, the mold is set. This time we venture into a universe I’ve been contemplating for some time, The Kinetics. The Roll of the Dice challenge continues.

Down the dingy hallway of Philips and Morris sanitarium strolled two figures. Both men dressed in double dressed breasted vests. As well as high waist button-up pants held up by suspenders.

And they also wore pointed low toe heel boots.

The difference was one man wore a set of wire rimmed glasses and had a trimmed mustache.

The other wore a long-tailed coat, a bow tie, and a top hat. The man also had long bushy sideburns on either side of his head.

“Thank you for coming so soon Mr. Wilsdale. You might be the person needed to solve the dilemma this institution is in.”

Harold Wilsdale strolled alongside Dr. Gregory Kinsome.

“I appreciate the summons. I must admit your telegraph was quite intriguing. You mentioned your patient has shown strange powers?”

The man of medicine nodded his confirmation.

“Indeed sir, I am quite baffled by this. In all my years of being a man of science I’ve seen many a strange thing. But this has even me perplexed.”

“No disrespect towards your profession Doctor. But my travels about the world have shown me this. There are some things even advanced 19th century science cannot explain.”

Wilsdale and Kinsome walked past several cells with various patients in them. The dingy hallway did not give Harold confidence.

And then they reached a barred metal door. From beyond came a woman’s shriek and the sounds of something powerful hitting another door. The Doctor made the Christian warding sign against evil.

“That is Miss Abigail Winston sir, and as I understand it you have similar abilities. This is why I asked you to come here.”

“Make them stop, make them stop!” he heard the woman shout.

A blast of memories assailed Harold's mind. Powerful visions that were not his own.

He saw visions of a black woman, her family slaughtered by slavers. He saw how they had tried to violate her and how in that moment her power had activated. God almighty have mercy, you poor creature, he thought.

“Mr. Wilsdale, Mr. Wilsdale are you well sir?” he heard Dr. Kinsome ask.

The Maple-brown haired man shook himself back to reality. “Doctor, you did the right thing asking for me. Heavenly Father have mercy, this woman is a Kinetic!”

“I beg your pardon?” the Doctor asked.

“A Kinetic is a person who has powers of the mind. Not all people have these abilities, and some are stronger than others. Why this is so only God almighty knows.”

“This is one of the few institutions that accepts her kind mind you, so I must ask can you help this woman?’

Harold looked at the Doctor and explained, “I can help her, but please I would ask you to not refer to her as some animal. All I can say is this. My travels around the world have shown me things.

“I’ve seen the depths of human depravity and the heights of morality among people of all skin colors. They’ve given me a new understanding of how skin color should not be an issue in this country.”

The Doctor shook his head. “Considering the contentious course of the war, there are many who would disagree with you. President Lincoln though has many similar views to you.”

Harold sighed and shook his head in sadness.

“I have been gone from my country too long. This civil war has taken much a toll on us all. But let us return to the matter at hand, I will see to this poor woman.”

Another scream rang through the sanitarium. There came the sound of something hitting a metal door. The patients began to writhe, some moaned, others cackled.

It was all quite unnerving to Harold. There’s nothing I can do for these poor soulsBut this woman I can do something for.

“Open the door Doctor, I will see to this.”

Kinsome pulled out a key and unlocked the door. “May God have mercy on your soul sir and keep you safe.”

He opened the door and Harold strode in. Behind him the Wilsdale heir heard the door lock. He strolled down the long hallway towards a door that had many dents in it.

“Silence the voices, silence the voices!” came the scream of the woman.

The Prime Kinetic closed his eyes and opened his mind. Incredible, such power from one person is remarkable. He thought sensing the power which rivaled his own abilities as a Kinetic.

The textile company owner threw up his shields as he felt the powerful surge of mental energy build up. The blast hit his shields and bounced off. Walls on either side of him exploded from the force of the mental bolt.

Harold gaped at the raw strength. He calmed himself and walked forward. Abigail, Abigail Winston can you hear me?

“No-no-no, another voice! Silence the voices, not real-not real!”

As he drew closer, he sensed how tired she was. “You poor woman.” He whispered.

No Abigail, I can assure you I’m quite realI need you to calm down now, I can help you with what you’re enduring.

Stay away!” Came the mental shout.

“Abigail Winston is gone I am the witch of Natchitoches. Fear me as the Devil's Handmaiden.”

Harold continued his slow walk towards the battered door. You are no witch, Abigail WinstonYou are a woman who is suffering from great lossI can help you overcome your difficulties and become so much more.

He reached the door and pulled at it. The battered metal portal creaked open. Before him a woman in tattered clothes glared. Her skin covered in grime and filth.

Big chocolate brown eyes burned with insane anger. Yet they were bloodshot. Reminiscent of someone who did not see much sleep.

Stay away,’ the woman shouted as she sent another mental bolt at Harold.

But the bolt struck and bounced off his shield again. I’m not here to harm you, I beg you good lady let me into your mind, I can heal you.

“No-no-no, you’re not real, this isn’t real! You’re one of the voices!” she half sang.

“I can assure you I’m not." Harold answered.

That stopped the woman in mid-thought. Harold used that moment to slip into her mind. He used his power to cover the two in a mental dome of protection which drowned out any outside thoughts.

At first, the black woman sat there frozen. Her quaking hands moved to her head in stunned disbelief.

“They’re gone, the voices are gone. I’m alone in my mind again.” Abigail near sobbed in relief

Not every last one good lady, Harold sent to her mind.

Abigail Winston looked on Harold. Her face showed for the first time she could recognize the difference between what was and what wasn’t real. “It was you! You stopped the voices. Who are you, are, are you an angel?”

Harold shook his head and smiled.

“I can assure you ma’am I am not. I am a Christian man, who understands the God given gift we have. My name is Harold Wilsdale, I’m a Kinetic, as are you.”

“Ki-Kinetic?” was all she could ask.

“People chosen by God for a great purpose. And you have a role in the great purpose of this nation. But to do such I need you to listen and follow me.

"I beg you to place your trust in me lady, by God and his love I will not lead you astray.”

The woman nodded. “I will show you how to silence the voices. Then you can recover your strength of mind, body, and spirit.”

“You can do that?” The woman asked.

“I can give you the means to help yourself, that is what I can do.” Harold explained.

“The rest is up to you to figure out.”

“Show me these gifts you say come from God. Show me how to silence the voices please.” She begged.

He closed his eyes and delved into her mind. Moments later the two stood in the middle of an open field surrounded by a dome of light. “I’m protecting you from the voices, but the next step is this. You are familiar with brick walls?”

“I am,” the woman answered.

“Good, now picture setting down bricks for a wall here in your mind, concentrate.”

The woman did as he instructed, and a brick appeared before the two. Harold squatted down and examined it. “Good-good, this is very sturdy work.”

He got to his feet. “Now picture building on the brick, build that wall.”

The woman began to do as he instructed. “Easy-easy,” Harold warned.

“Don’t go too fast, lay the bricks down slow. It’s better to be slow and precise so there are no mistakes in your wall.”

The woman continued as the building of the wall slowed down. The wall built up until finally it stood at a height that seemed to go forever.

Harold nodded and explained, “Excellent, that’s a very sturdy wall you’ve built. Now I’m going to release my protection.”

The woman’s face paled in fear. “No, no you mustn’t, I can't stand to hear the voices screaming at me again.”

The Prime Kinetic gave her a matter-of-fact look.

“I can’t keep this protection up forever. Sooner or later, I’ll have to let go. Besides in you Abigail Winston, I do believe lady that you have power greater than you realize.”

The woman nodded as she flashed a nervous smile.

“Now you may feel a bit of strain when the thoughts hit the wall you’ve created. But over time this will get easier and become more natural to you.” The Wilsdale man explained in an assuring tone.

The woman nodded in understanding. “Now I’m going to let go in 3, 2, 1!”

And then he released the mental shield. Abigail grimaced a bit as she felt a surge hit her wall. Harold returned to the real world and his body.

Abigail rubbed the temples of her head.

“The voices are gone! I can’t hear them anymore! Beautiful silence never sounded so glorious,” she said in a shaky tone of voice.

Harold nodded and smiled. “I’m pleased to see you’re feeling better lady.”

The woman began to sob but this time in joy. “My mind is free of these voices, thank you Mr. Wilsdale, thank you.”

“Don’t thank me yet Miss Winston. You still have a long way to go in your understanding of being Kinetic. But I will help you understand so that you may use this gift from God to better serve this country.”

The woman then looked over herself, “By God almighty I look horrible!” she said in open disgust at her filth ridden attire.

“I will see to you lady, do not fear. And be rest assured we will see each other again soon.”

With those words he turned and left. As soon as he was outside the extra secure ward the Doctor stared in stunned surprise. His expression saying one thing, “How?’

“Abigail Winston is an extraordinary woman, Doctor. But right now, I need you to have one of the nurses see about getting her bathed and tended to. Also see about getting her some clothes.

"A good modest Christian woman should have clothes suitable for audiences with men.”

The Doctor nodded his agreement. “Of course, I’ll see to it right away.”

Harold asked, “Doctor, by the way does this lady have any place she can go?’

The Doctor thought for a moment, “As far as I know, she does not."

“Then I would have her come to my estate near Jamestown. She has much to learn about her God given abilities, and I mean to see her learn so.”

The Doctor nodded his agreement. “Of course, once she’s considered well enough, I will release her to you at once sir.”

“Thank you,” Harold said before he left.

Once outside the facility he found his carriage waiting for him. The pale skinned Irish cab driver looked on the young man. “So, what’s the verdict on the young lady in the institution?” the Irishman asked.

“She has and she’s a very powerful Kinetic my friend. As strong as me for that matter. Best tell Charlie that if all goes well than we’ll be having someone new on the premises soon."

“I’ll let him know right away.” The Kinetic redhead male answered. He then closed his eyes for a moment then opened them up.

“All done sir,” the Irishman said before he got down and opened the carriage door.

“Now back to the house?" He inquired.

“Indeed, I’m feeling a voracious appetite coming on. Using my power takes it out of me.”

“We’re all human, created in his image sir,” the Irishmen pointed out.

“Amen to that Colin, amen to that.” Harold said in agreement.
