Hello true believers of Minds, it’s Animeman73. It’s time for day 6 of Inessa Burnell’s #IBASwordtember challenge. This time the word/subject is: Crystal.

We’re heading back into the realm of fantasy, this time with a steampunk twist. How so, you’ll have to wait and see in this vignette. Let the fantasy goodness begin!

The sounds of mechanized equipment rang out. While steam engines belched out within the great factory.

Two people stared at the gigantic white colored suit of armor. Even as others moved to polish and repair it with various tools.

One of the people turned to the crystal sword in their hands. Both men wore white shirts and the overalls of factory workers

“Genius, absolute genius.” The first man commented. “The Dimondos people were masters of Mage Tech.”

The second man looked at the white-colored crystal sword in their hands. “So, Grover, you mean this sword is the means to activate this… Gem Knight here?”

The older man named Grover nodded. “That’s the whole of it Karter." He acknowledged.

“The problem is the Dimondos people put a spell in the sword. Only those with their blood can operate this thing.”

Karter looked up at the great hulking machine wondering what secrets lay within.

“And if the old stories read true," Karter pondered. "This is one of the legendary Gem Knights that shows up when our world needs them."

Grover shrugged, “That’s the way the old Sage books tell it.”

Karter looked again at the crystal sword in his hands. “Weird enough we find this armor and the sword underneath the factory. The question is what do we do with them?”

“Don't worry Karter, we wait for Queen Sapphira's man to come pick it up. Those are our Majesty's orders.”

Karter sighed and shook his head. “I know she’s our ruler, but I can’t help but feel sorry for her. She lost her husband and only has her daughter, Emerelda. How she stays so strong I don’t know.”

Grover grunted his agreement. “To be ruler of the Sapphire Kingdom you have to be strong mentally. She’s as tough as her parents were, great spirits rest their souls.”

Karter looked again on the humanoid machine. “I still don’t understand why the Dimondos people disappeared like they did. It’s not as if things were bad. Hells, if anything, they helped usher in an age of prosperity and Mage Tech advancement.”

“You got that right Karter. That’s a question that’s bothered the wisest of Sages. How does an entire civilization disappear in a single night? But we should put this thing away.”

The two men turned and walked away. "Grover," Karter asked. "How is it that only inorganic objects can harness the power of node energy.”

“You mean in direct contradiction to some of those old tales? Lad, it has to do with the fact node energy is dangerous. No organic being could harness that power without burning to a crisp.”

“Metallic objects are the best. They can handle and even channel raw node power unlike organic material."

Grover put an arm around Karter. "So, take pride in what we do kid. We're wizards, masters of Mage Tech construction and maintenance. We're the ones who keep this land running even in the darkest of times."

A look of trepidation crossed Karter’s face. “I hope you’re right Grover. I hope you’re right.”
