Hello everyone, with Sakura-Con so near it took a bit of effort to do this story. Due to having quite a bit on my mind at the moment.
But it's time for another story in the Roll of the Dice challenge. This time I've got a substitution with The Libertarian Farmer. Said selected person’s Genre: Science Fiction. And the word they chose was Hope. Science Fiction and hope, good ones.
Let me show what I came up with.
The large prison ship set down in the hanger of the Mars Station. All around armed Unity Party troops stood watch over the situation.
Considering who the cargo on Prison ship Botany Bay is I’m not surprised. Thought the figure dressed in technician attire.
The pseudo-technician watched as the ramp for the ship opened. A large force of armed men approached. Leading them was a tall man dressed in the Black with yellow stripes uniform of a warden.
I see you’re anticipating what you think will be your prize huh Bartlett? Too bad if all goes well that isn’t what’s going to happen.
“Hey, you!” the man heard someone call.
He turned with a start to see a grime covered technician approaching. “Get back to work! This place isn’t going to take care of itself!”
Putting on his best Bostonian accent he said, “Yeah, right, sorry. All this tech gets overwhelming.”
“Stop gawking and get to work!” the man snapped.
The pseudo-technician noted the one berating him had the badge of a foreman. “Right away boss,” he acknowledged and headed off.
He made like he was heading someplace. As soon as he rounded a corner, he touched the camouflaged control device on his wrist. “Big brother, what’s the word?” he whispered
Another voice whispered back. “Everyone is in position, and it looks as though Botany Bay is about ready to dump its cargo! Don’t worry Able we’ll save your old friend and colleague, his wife, and your goddaughter.”
He nodded and pressed a button on his device. “Jennifer, how are things on your end?”
“Snuck into the computer system easy and quiet. Warden Bartlett won’t know what hit him until it’s all over. Have you seen any sign of that backstabber?”
The man named Able shook his head. “Been all over this place and I haven’t found anything. Don’t worry we’ll find her. Then you can have your revenge I promise.”
“I’ll hold you to that,” She answered
Able heard the computer voice call out, "Prison ship Botany Bay preparing to unload cargo!"
From a hidden pocket Able fished out his Scorch Blaster and put pellets in.
He walked back to the railed area that overlooked the large hanger. Everything looked normal, but Able knew better.
He spotted the technicians who were walking up behind the Unity Party troops. All making themselves look inconspicuous. Stay frosty everyone, he thought.
Able walked over to a set of stairs and clambered down them.
As he approached the ship, he saw a group of bedraggled men and women descend the ramp led by security. All the prisoners looked bereft and broken of hope.
The only crimes these people are guilty of is being expendable or a threat to the Unity Party. Enjoy your control of Earth you bastards! It won't last, Able thought to himself.
"Liberty will not die!" he whispered before he picked up the pace.
Able saw a black man, black woman, and a black girl of around thirteen years getting led off the ship. As Able approached he saw Warden Bartlett flash a horrific smile.
Yeah, I know you Bartlett! I know where your tastes lay filthy monster, Able noted.
The warden approached the three as he flashed a smile that seemed more like that of a snake about to strike. “And what do we have here?” He noted sounding casual.
“A filthy violator of the Equilibrium the Unity Party established. A woman who dared to slander a party instructor and our ideals.
"And a naughty little girl who needs lessons in obedience to the party!” The slicked back brown-haired man commented.
It was all Able could do to keep himself from going for his scorch gun right then. Keep talking Bartlett. Keep telling yourself you’re safe, Able thought as he scratched his goatee.
The black man said nothing, he and his family stared at the arrogant Warden of Red Dawn Prison.
Bartlett quipped, “Don’t worry Doctor Williams. You and your wife will have plenty of time to think on what you’ve done in my Maximum-Security ward. And I imagine your daughter will provide some great fun for me.”
The black girl moved close to her mother. She was trying to be brave, but the fear was evident on her face. The warden nodded to one of his men.
Before the girl could do anything, armed men grabbed her and kicked her over to Bartlett. The girl let out a yelp of pain and surprise. guards grabbed the black man and woman.
“Let go of my daughter, she's done nothing!” Doctor Williams shouted.
“You can't do this, she's still a child. Let her go!” the woman called.
Able felt his blood begin to boil even more at the sight. Yet keeping himself calm he inched towards the warden. Everyone looked preoccupied with what was going on.
"Not a chance! Your daughter needs proper education in obedience to the Unity Party and I will oversee that. Her mind will get cleansed of the poison you've instilled in her,” Bartlett sneered
“Let go of my daughter you pervert!” the black woman shouted.
A guard kicked the black woman in the ribs while two more shoved the man to the ground.
“Oh, but this is how it was always meant to be. You couldn’t let go could you. You had to try and maintain the ideas of a family and free thinking.
"The Unity Party is both mother and father to all! Your former daughter will learn the truth of her place.” The man stated with a sick sneer.
He grabbed the little girl by the throat. “And as for you little one, I’m going to enjoy having fun with you. You may even get to like it.” He cooed in a tone that made Able’s stomach lurch.
The rebel leader reached Bartlett and the girl. He pulled out his scorch blaster from his hidden pocket. He powered it up as he put it to the head of the perverted man.
“Get your grubby hands off my goddaughter you filthy violator of children!” Able snapped in his regular voice.
Chaos broke loose at that moment. Scorch blaster fire erupted as the prisoners dove for the ground in fright. Technicians assailed the guards.
But Able knew these weren’t technicians, these were his forces in disguise.
Able tackled the surprised Bartlett to the ground. The man tried to struggle but Able wrapped his legs around his waist from behind. One of Able’s arms snaked around the man’s throat to grab his other wrist.
He arched his back cutting off oxygen to the warden. In a matter of moments, Bartlett stopped struggling.
The rebel heard several sets of footsteps running towards him. “Area secure little brother,” a deep baritone voice called.
Able stumbled to his feet and deactivated the holographic disguise. Rubbing his curly blonde hair, he removed the technician cap he’d been wearing.
Doctor Williams and his wife gaped. The little girl’s eyes brimmed with tears as she ran forward and flung herself into the man’s arms. “God poppa Able,” she sobbed in relief and joy.
“Able, Able Wilcox is that you?” Doctor Shaunteese Williams asked.
The rebel leader turned to his long-time friend. “It is, contrary to Unity Party reports I’m very much alive and kicking!”
“I knew you weren’t dead I knew it!” The preteen said as she hugged him close.
The girl pulled away to stare at her other father figure. “Like I told you Alteessha, bad guys can’t get rid of this ex-Space Marine that easy.” Able said flashing a confident grin.
He set her down and turned on his communication device. “Jennifer?” he asked.
“Everything went down exactly as planned. The moment you moved in I activated the jamming program in the base and on the Botany Bay.”
“Roger,” Able answered then looked at the frightened prisoners on the ground.
“On your feet everyone!” he stated, to which the frightened prisoners obeyed.
He looked at his brother. “Ed, take some men and get the rest of the prisoners off the Botany Bay, and make sure to see the crew tied up. Don’t shoot unless they fire first understood?”
A man dressed in a ragged uniform nodded and saluted. “Understood little brother.”
Rounding up several men they stormed on to the Prison ship. Three minutes later the last of the prisoners had debarked. All looking confused and frightened about what happened.
Able looked at them and explained, “All right listen up, I’m Supreme Commander Able Wilcox of the New Yankees. I have an offer for each of you. Things are starting to change here on Mars.
"And you have a chance to be a part of something bigger than yourselves.”
The prisoners mumbled and looked at each other in surprise.
“So, here’s the deal. You can stay here, and likely get tortured and killed by these Unity Party bastards. Or you can come with us and be a part of the reigniting of the torches of hope and liberty.”
The prisoners looked unsure of themselves still.
“I know that many of you either got stabbed in the back by them or chose to speak out against them. Join the New Yankees and we’ll crush the Unity Party to create a better world for Earth and Mars. I’ve given the offer, the rest is up to you,” Able explained.
That was all they needed. A man with a clean-shaven head approached. "We’ll take our chances with you,” he stated.
Able nodded and turned to his long -time friend and his wife. “Shaunteese, Liona, are you okay?” he asked in open concern.
“Bruised and battered by these Unity Party bastards. But other than that, unharmed thanks to you.” Liona answered in relief and gratitude of her own.
Doctor Shaunteese Williams was still in stunned shock. “Able, praise God you're alive! But that accident we heard about on the news…”
Able cut him off. “My men and I faked our own deaths and started this little revolution of liberty. I'll explain the full extent of it later.”
He activated his communicator. “Wilkins, we’ve got a load of passengers coming. Tell your pilots to load up their ships to full capacity. As soon as they’re full, get skyward, and head back to base, and don’t forget to activate the light reflection devices!”
A voice from the communicator answered, “Roger boss, we're waiting for the passengers.”
“All right tie these party cretins up. Then get these prisoners to the ships, move!” Able instructed his men.
The troops obeyed the orders given. Able walked over to Shaunteese and his family.
“Old friend I need you to come with me. My brother and I will escort you to Red Valley city. I have a unique offer for you.”
Shaunteese stated, “You saved my wife and me. And you saved my little girl…” he pointed in disgust at Bartlett, “From that piece of filth.”
Liona looked furious and moved to grab Able’s scorch blaster. The ex-Space Marine put up a hand to stop her.
“Easy Liona easy, I know you want revenge but not yet. Let this piece of filth live a while longer. Sending him to Hell too fast would be sending him on a vacation.”
Able walked over and crouched before a panting and angry warden. “So, you were going to violate my goddaughter huh?”
He chuckled but everyone could sense the rage Able was keeping under control. “Sorry but filthy scum who violate children are the worst! And I’m not surprised the Unity Party would have you!
"Well, you give this message to the Mars Planetary Governor. Or rather the tyrant of Mars, Unity party filth!”
The Warden said nothing but shivered, reminding Able of the kind of coward he was dealing with.
“Let Governor Andrea Morris and Lieutenant Governor Aisha Phillips know this. The torches of hope and liberty still burn strong. The Martian Republic will come to pass!”
With that he leapt to his feet and kicked the man in the face. As he turned to leave his communicator went off. Abel pressed it and answered, “Yeah?”
Jennifer’s voice called, “We have trouble. It seems the lack of communication hasn’t gone unnoticed by Governor psycho bitch!”
Able grimaced, “Crap, how bad are we talking?"
“We have a major force of heavy hitters assembling. By my guess their ETA is twenty minutes.”
Able raised an eyebrow. “Twenty minutes, well now we’ve made quite an impression on her.”
He looked up and spoke. “Listen up people, the Planetary Governor’s sending heavy hitters our way. So, let's get the lead out and be gone before they arrive!”
He looked at the Williams family. “Shaunteese if you and your family will come with me.”
The scientist nodded his agreement. They turned to flee the hanger. Williams stated, “But as soon as we’re safe I want to know how your crazy ass survived!”
The rebel leader chuckled. “You got it my friend and the story’s a doozy.”
Well, mission accomplished. I got the story written and it’s good to go. I hope The Libertarian Farmer and you enjoyed this action-packed science fiction story. The roll of the Dice challenge continues next time.
