I am sharing this real story to welcome the new Minds members from Vietnam and to honor my father.
My dad had lots of stories from leading a very interesting and long life. He also traveled extensively worldwide in his last job, including trips to Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) and Hanoi. I believe this story is from one of his trips to Hanoi.
He stayed at an old stately hotel that was formerly a hospital established for the French. He woke up in the middle of the night startled to find an old Frenchman and his dog in the room. They eventually left walking right through the closed (and locked) door.
My dad was so scared that he stayed up until daylight, sitting on a chair in front of a mirror so he could see what was behind him.
He asked for different room at the front desk and he recalled knowing looks and smiles from the staff.
I've never been to Vietnam but my dad told me it is a beautiful country. My only story about Vietnam is a long flight with my wife from Narita (Japan) to Bangkok (Thailand) made much longer having to fly around Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia in 1975.
The banner photo belonged to my parents and is now in my study. My parents accumulated a lot of souvenirs from Vietnam which is now with one of my sons and sister.
