Can you imagine what you want to do with your day? Is there more than one possible future that you can imagine for that day? Do you choose a specific one?
Yes, yes, and yes.
But do you have a choice as to what you imagine in your brain? Maybe all of that is already predetermined, so even though you have chosen a specific plan for that day, that is the only possible outcome the universe could have produced. Therefore, you might argue that choice is an illusion.
How do you test that hypothesis? You'd have to predict somebody's life decisions before he makes those decisions. It is impossible for you or anyone else to make such a prediction. Therefore, it is an untestable hypothesis.
Even if you can predict somebody's life with 100% accuracy, as soon as he knows his future, his future will change. In other words, even if it were possible to test for predeterminism, the very act of testing for it and making the results known will break predeterminism. Even if you don't tell the guy, you're going to apply the same test to yourself, and then you'll be the one who breaks predeterminism. It's like Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle. As soon as you measure 'it', 'it' changes, making any measurement impossible.
TLDR: As soon as you prove to me that you can predict exactly what I'll say and do in the next few minutes, I will prove you wrong. If you keep your knowledge of my future to yourself, you will never be able to prove to me that you can predict my future. Therefore, arguing that free will doesn't exist is a losing proposition. It doesn't matter that you think you 'know' the truth. You cannot prove it.
At the end of the day, what does it matter whether or not you think free will exists? Are you going to live your life assuming it doesn't? Is this your excuse for not exercising free will? If you truly believe that you are an automaton devoid of free will, perhaps the rest of us should treat you accordingly. Now be a good robot and make me a sandwich, make me a car, and build a house for me. I will choose your life decisions on your behalf – and why not? You already believe and accept that the 'universe' chooses for you. Just see me as the universe. I am the universe. I will tell you what to do.
No? Yeah, I didn't think so.
