There are various approaches to the construction of a philosophy, regardless, all philosophies have their basis at the metaphysical postulations of the philosopher which are a direct result of what he wants to produce.

A philosophy is a structure of ideas integrated through logic devised with the purpose of generating an ideal approach to life. The structure of a philosophy always starts with its metaphysics whether the philosopher begins with it or not. Philosophical arguments always extend throughout the branches, so if an ethical argument is produced it has metaphysical consequence/s.

The first branch is metaphysics which is the compilation of the axioms and their logical arrangement into a structure that conceptualizes the fundamental structure of reality. The following branch is Ontology which is the arrangement of the concepts that make up reality into groups in a manner that is logically consistent with the metaphysical axioms. Epistemology is the branch that treats the classification of knowledge and the arrangement of resulting groups. For instance, a medical practice can be epistemologically classified as scientific knowledge or as magical knowledge depending on the scope of the philosopher's metaphysical axioms. The following branch is twofold, it consists of Ethics and Aesthetics. These deal with the definition of proper behavior and the intrinsic property of things that causes an experience of joy/satisfaction conceptualized as beauty. This branch is devised to arrange the subjective experience in the context of the postulated philosophy.

I am not sure if Politics is a branch of philosophy but it is definitely a culmination of philosophy as well as its implementation upon the act of governing. If politics is a branch of philosophy it is one devoted to the proper organization of society.

The most interesting thing of philosophy to my mind is that it doesn't matter from which branch one starts to construct a philosophy, if we want to properly construct one, we need to address all its branches and make it logically consistent. Otherwise, it falls apart and becomes an ideology. The reason I conceive of politics as a possible branch of philosophy is because a political attitude can always be analyzed through philosophy and politicians understood. That's why I think that politicians, lawyers, teachers and anyone with authority has the responsibility to strife towards living consistently by a philosophy. That's what integrity is, no?

To summarize, philosophy is a structure that answers "How should I live?", Metaphysics answers "What is everything?", Ontology answers "Where does everything fit?", Epistemology answers "How do I know I know?", Ethics answers "What is proper behavior?", Aesthetics answers "What is beauty?" and Politics answers "How should society be organized?".
