An equation is a mathematical statement of the fact that two expressions or quantities are equal . In a tensor equation , the two equal expressions are tensors .
A tensor equation might represent the transformation law for the components of a covariant , contravariant or mixed tensor of any rank , expressing the independence of tensors of any coordinate system used to describe them .
