Interview with Rod Sàez Chávez

Rod Sàez Chávez thank you for this interview. My readers might not know much about you.

Thank you very much for the chance of this interview, I hope I fulfill all the expectations.

Your career as a director in film?

https://filmfreeway.com/RodSaez_CIntamaniFilms

We focus mostly on Distribution and Co productions lately, so Direction goes for specific situations.

As a Director, I started very young making mockumentaries of close friends, or strange fictions, then, as film student I made some 8MM music videos for bands I was close, and also we made a fiction short called 9 1/2 clowns ( a parody of 9 1/2 weeks but with a girl obsessed with clowns.) A short film that was banned by local Censorship Authorities and probably ended up as a black comb.

I assisted on Direction to Music Videos Director Carlos Toro, with him we filmed artists such as Therion, Goddarth, Lacrimosa, Rob Halford, among others.

I personally also made music videos for Forbidden, Black Needle Noise and my own project E-MEN.

In 2019 we are making a Documentary about the Social Insurrection in Chile that opened the chance for a New Constitution, and probably a more egalitarian society.

Also we made a documentary about the Sahumadoras (incense burners) who do a cleansing labor in urban folklore.

We recently got 2 awards due to a music video for the folk singer Cesar Reyes, it got a Best Music Video award in Miami a few days ago.

Can you tell us a story on how you got your start in the film industry and about your life as an author?

I got into film industry because of Alejandro Parra, from Gitano Films, we worked in Music Business, and he also has a Distribution Company, so he just started giving me responsibilities and duties of the other branch of the business, and just because suddenly we were in major Film Markets, having dinner with Jerome Paillard from the Marche Du Film, etc.

So, in a moment, when I needed more freedom or more independence for taking decisions and new challenges, with Soledad Cáceres we founded Cintamani Films, a Production and Distribution Office.

As an Author, I think that even though Times are very difficult and full of giant challenges, with wisdom and tons of discipline you can accomplish magnificent goals, and make a lot of people very happy.

Do you have a story you wish everyone knew about you as a filmmaker? Could you share it with us?

Once I was working with a filmmaker and his latest feature, and we started talking about music. We had in common a fetish preference, he mentioned I was making a documentary about the band. I asked him if he had real footage of the ensemble performing in the 1980s, he said no, so I told him I had hours of home recordings of the group in iconic 80's venues. Also that I was a personal friend of the group. Finally the doc was made with all my original footage, but also we regathered the band, group that is still touring and making new music now.

You have to guess what band it is.

Can you talk about your latest film you are involved in ? Also, what platforms can people view your film on? Please provide link

Now we have in Film Festivals Superno, by Abel Mekasha, co produced by us, and Three Souls by José Guerrero Urzua, (both films were shortlisted to the Academy Awards), we also are promoting Savage by Juan Carlos Mege, and the International Independent Production JUST PASSING THROUGH directed by Melina Fernandez da Silva and Nicolas Meta.

I will share some trailers:

Superno:

Three Souls:

Savage:

What can you tell us about any upcoming movies you are involved in?

Right now we are involved in many projects, as co producers, the new stuff from Abel Mekasha, ethiopian director we co produced and who got shortlisted for the Academy past October, also a Documentary about The Ramblers, probably the most emblematic rock band from Chile, who created the Anthem for the 1962 World Soccer Cup, new projects by José Guerrero Urzua and Juan Carlos Mege, and finishing our documentary.

Also with Soledad we are planning making a fiction about the Case of Daniel Zamudio, gay kid who was killed by white extremists.

All of them in some way have a message for society, we need to transmit wisdom to people in order to transform society into a Positive Being.

Can you tell us who or what inspires you as a filmmaker?

Of course there are many authors and filmmakers I admire, from Tarkovski to Raoul Ruiz, but the most important inspiration is transforming onto beauty the most of the negativity of society itself.

We need to be able to transform society for good but with beauty.

Can you tell a story about your other work?

Who are some people in the film industry you have worked with to date?

Well, I studied under Michael Hausman, producer of Amadeus, Gangs of New York and Brokeback Mountain; I also have worked with Hank Levine, Cavi Borges (Ciudad de Deus), also, I have worked with Scott Eldridge, Maria Gisele Royo, Student Academy Awarded.

We also focus on creating a frame for new filmmakers.

Dreams: what project or script or actor or actress would be a dream for you to get to work with?

We would love to work with Terry Gilliam,we think he is an awesome creator.

Rod Sàez Chávez, the classic question: what charity do you work with and can you provide a link to it so others can see too please.

We work with the local Banner of Peace Foundation branch, we basically work in order to implement the Roerich Treaty, so through Culture and Arts we encourage Society to become more human and sensitive.

We also take new filmmakers and help them to become known.

What advice would you give aspiring authors, actors or actresses?

You need to read a lot, learn a lot, and always enhance yourself by studying and growing. You need to be humble, patient and never give up.

If you work hard, chances can come.

A final question. What question do you wish I had asked? And what would the answer be?

I would have loved a question about the local scene, and how I see it.

My answer is, the local scene is still growing and becoming an Industry little by little, but needs good people and less ``Toby's Club”, there is a small group of agents who want to be the only ones creating, so I guess this causes a big damage to the environment itself.
