Everyone tell you that you need the highest level of education in order to thrive in life, but is that really what you need?

Let’s start with understanding what is the current education system. The education sector or education system is a group of institutions (ministries of education, local educational authorities, teacher training institutions, schools, universities, etc.) whose primary purpose is to provide education to children and young people in educational settings, according to Wikipedia.

What is education? The education’s definition is this: the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction, especially at a school or university. So you receive instructions and you have to follow the orders, don’t dare to be different. I wonder why many artists dropout of school…Creativity don’t follow strict instruction, creativity is free and can’t be controlled.

I went to study marketing thinking I will learn the creative part, how to make campaigns and other stuffs, but it wasn’t like this. I had to memorize word by word subjects that I didn’t understood and they weren’t really useful in a career in marketing. I couldn’t follow these instructions and at the final year of University I dropped out. To me it didn’t felt right to fight to get a diploma and pay a lot of money for a domain that none of the information could be used in real life. Then I went to study marketing by myself and from there I started studying other fields like nutrition, medicine, psychology, business and so on without paying a stranger a lot of money to approve if I followed the instructions and after years giving me a paper for this.

If you finish university and you fail in life, not reaching that high salary and status, they say it’s your fault. Actually is the education system’s fault because it don’t provide people the tools they need to survive and thrive in life. they give you old information, unuseful today and you have to memorize it the way they want without questioning anything. It’s not your fault because you didn’t achieved the career you wanted, is the system’s fault.

THOUGHT PROVOKING

A study by Kyung Hee Kim involving school age children between kindergarten through 12th grade showed a massive decline of creativity as “children have become less emotionally expressive, less energetic, less talkative and verbally expressive, less humourous, less imaginative, less unconventional, less lively and passionate, less perceptive, less apt to connect seemingly irrelevant things, less synthesizing and less likely to see things from a different angle“.

The creator of the general education board in 1903 J.D. Rockefeller said “I don’t want a nation of thinkers. I want a nation of workers.“

This is why you can’t question anything in school and you have to memorize word by word the information that is given. We also have very few classes that involve creativity and original thinking.

School will become the hub of the community. Children will spend longer at school, but learn less.” - Dr. Richard Day, 1969

School is killing creativity and many studies prove it. Gardner (1982) indicated preschool children have high levels of creative ability, and when they enter school, their artistic creativity tends to decline as they learn conformity. Axtell (1966) detected a decline at the fourth grade in the curiosity of gifted students. Many studies have concluded a large drop in creativity and curiosity occurs when socialization and conformity is initially taught, which in Western society begins in the fourth grade (Axtell, 1966; Kang, 1989; Marcon, 1995; Nash, 1974; Timmel, 2001; 286 Torrance, 1977; Williams, 1976). Torrance (1977) suggested these decreases occur when children in Western cultures are confronted with new stresses and demands and are expected to conform to classroom etiquette and peer pressure, and thus their creative abilities are discouraged.

We spend more than 12 years in school, millions of dollars in tuition fees, books, transport and other school supplies, but many fail at life and making a living…Think why? School don’t prepare you for life!
