One of the most exotic and unique fruits on the planet, the pineapple, seems like it would take some very specific and difficult steps to grow.  In actuality, it couldn't be easier.

Though easy to grow, they actually take a long time to mature.  You may find the waiting is the hardest part!   Here are some simple steps to grow your own:

Step 1: Get a pineapple.

This can be done at any grocery store.  If you don't live in a tropical climate, pineapples will still grow inside your home if you have enough sunlight.  Their roots don't take up much space so you can grow them in a large pot.

Step 2: Chop off its crown.

Slice off the top of the pineapple, including about an inch of the fruit.  Carve out whatever fruit remains and remove any dead or dying leaves.  Clean it off and it's ready to plant.

Step 3: Place the crown in soil.

This part's easy enough.  You can plant it outside, if you have a year-round warm climate; otherwise put it in a pot.  Though the roots don't need much space, the leaves can grow really large so make sure you have room.

Dig a hole in the dirt and place the crown in the soil with the leaves protruding upward.  Cover the base of the pineapple with dirt and get ready for the hard part.

Step 4: Wait.

Pineapples don't need much water because they store a lot of it in their leaves.  Make sure they don't end up in soggy soil.  Keep them in a place where they'll get a lot of sunlight and wait.... for about two years.  (I told you this was the hard part).

Yes, they may take two years to mature, but once they start to blossom you'll get some amazing rewards.

Step 5: Profit.

You will notice the pineapple start to turn yellow as it grows, literally, right out of the crown.  Once it begins to turn yellow, it means it's time to harvest.  You're about to be one lucky farmer.

It may be a good idea to plant lots of pineapples, since you have to wait so long, but there you have it: the simple method of growing your own!
