In this video, created by the United States government for the Pentagon's Joint Special Operations University, a world is described, 20 years in the future, in which cities have sprawled and the urban environment has become incredibly dangerous.
They outline a world where climate change has pushed people to the brink and civil structures have degraded to include decentralized electrical grids and social movements that act outside the bounds of the state. They talk about the danger of dealing with a 1% that does not fall in line the the unseen changes that the military will face.
It's put together with a bunch of stock images and has a seriously creepy undertone. Understandable, to expect the worst, for this is how we have prepared for much of the potential dangers on this planet, but, at the same time, it does not outline any chance of hope for a unification.
“It was made for an internal military audience to illuminate the challenges of operating in megacity environments,” Army spokesperson William Layer said, via e-mail. “The video was privately produced pro bono in spring of 2014 based on ‘Megacities and the United States Army’... The producer of the film wishes to remain anonymous.”
Who produced it? And why do they not talk about water condensation and wealth distribution?
Well, it is a military document, so it's understandable that it's geared toward producing warfare. However, it's important to keep in mind that this is also propaganda. The future is not designed; we are creating it as we go. We can create magnetic trains to enable transportation between cities, dotting the landscape with them. There is a possibility that we can return the Earth's climate to a sustainable one.
The bizarre documentary, however, cannot be overlooked.
