Veterans across the United States have begun to arrive at the water protector camp near Cannonball, North Dakota.

"Veterans like us are like a Swiss Army Knife," U.S. Army veteran Adric Potter said in an interview. "Any one of us can cover down on anything, and the majority of us at least have medical training."

At first summoned by a GoFundMe account that raised over $1 million dollars to send veterans to stand "alongside peaceful water protectors, who've endured violent attacks from the private security funded by DAPL and more brutality and arrests at the hands of militarized police and DAPL security, the movement and desire to stand with the Native American's has taken a life of its own."

"The people need help, and this is the spot to be in the struggle to save the damn planet," Eric Lobo, who came with Veterans For Peace, said in an interview.

"They've got the money and they've got the power, so we have to unite," Lobo said. "We have to unite."

The leaders of the movement have fought public pressure that has painted them as wild and dangerous.  Despite reports of "clashes" between protesters and police, they say, they have completely banned weapons from the camps and front line protesters are receiving hours of training each day.  The veterans are adding credence to the movement that has already spoken to many, to protect the future of water on this planet.
