As a retiree, I can easily say and do exactly that. I can ignore the world around me and just drink my beer & wine, enjoying my retirement.
But I care. I care about the many problems we face today because I don't want my children and their children to live in a world worse off than what we have today.
That's the reason why I became very active politically and outspoken in the last Presidential election continuing to this day. I did not like the direction our great country was heading and I felt very strongly that we needed President Trump at the helm. I guess a lot of other people also felt the same way.
It is very liberating to be able to speak exactly what's on my mind without any fear of recrimination. I don't have to please anyone else except myself. And my wife, of course. I accept that others will have views different and contrary to mine. I don't have any problems with that as long as they also respect my right and freedom to speak my mind.
I know that not everyone is willing to publicly speak out for one reason or other. I respect that. I also respect the people that speak out and fight for their beliefs. I just want to remind these people that others are entitled to their own beliefs. And the right and freedom to express it. Also remember that the majority rules.
I am also a realist. I know that I can't solve the problems of the world. Probably not even one. But I feel damn good knowing that I am trying my best.
Keep on fighting for your beliefs. This is what makes our country great.
