An impassioned plea for Minds.com to incorporate functionality for musicians.

In short: There is currently a giant "social media" market share that hasn't been addressed since the days of Myspace music that I think minds.com could capitalize on. Music adds content as well as culture. Minds.com already has blog systems, group systems, monetization in place, music seems like another niche that minds.com could fill.

Believe it or not, if you search online right now for "how to promote your music/band online" you will still find pages telling you to create a myspace music account, in the year (current year) 2017! Facebook may have slain the Myspace social media dragon, but they never even bothered with doing anything with musicians or bands. Sure, you could set up an artist page for your music, but Facebook never really had the polish that Myspace put towards their music platform.

There are many other platforms out there for musicians and bands to utilize. Two big ones that come to mind are Soundcloud and Bandcamp. Bandcamp is geared towards the monetization of music and getting music into the hands of listeners, but lacks a social media edge. Soundcloud is more for uploading a track here or there, and even still, lacks that social media polish. Soundcloud is also currently faltering and laying off staffing, pointing again to my thoughts that there is a market share available that Minds.com could tap into. Myspace allowed you to easily share other Myspace band pages, create stations, etc. Minds.com could do something similar.

This is where I believe Minds.com could really blossom as not only just a social media or microblogging platform, but allowing even more content and ultimately culture. Giving the musician the ability to post their tracks directly to Minds.com in some fashion, bypassing the need for a 3rd party site like Soundcloud could help. Allowing people the ability to see an artist page, with easy access to playing the content on the page and tipping the artist with boost points or actual money would be another great avenue. Having an embedded radio station player with selected tracks from artists across Minds.com that the user finds themselves, or allowing them to pick and choose from a repo of user-created radio stations could be another idea. There are many things that could be done with this site that Myspace tried to do but was ultimately swallowed, and Facebook never even bothered with.

If you thought the ideas on this blog were interesting, please share it. I would love to somehow send this to the staff at Minds.com to see their thoughts and ideas over this. Frankly, this site is amazing. The content is lively and entertaining, with content creators I enjoy posting here. The tipping system is very cool, incorpoating pts, USD and in the future, crypto. I hope it becomes common for the userbase to start tossing a few points (5-10) here and there onto content and posts they like, but that is a topic for another blog post.
