Aspect Analysis - Dragon Ball Super and it's lack of consistent power levels.

Dragon Ball Super, over it's run, has proven to be a pretty enjoyable show. Some great fights, some fantastic characters, and Piccolo showing himself to be an excellent grandpa to Pan. But come this last arc, The Tournament of Power, there was a constant aspect that was bugging me, and that is the writers didn't really seem to go into this knowing how strong anyone actually was.

The best example of this is when Kale turns into the Legendary Super Saiyan. Without so much as a sweat, she completely upstages Goku in his Super Saiyan Blue form, it wasn't even a contest between the two of them. Then, immediately, Jiren shows up and just one shots the hulking monstrosity that is Kale.

Fast forward to later on, and Goku is able to fight against Kale as just a Super Saiyan Blue. And a bit later he is fighting against Jiren as blue without just getting punched out. This is a bit of a running theme throughout the entire Tournament of Power Arc. How strong a person is can depend entirely on how strong they need to be to make the scene work, without giving any real consideration to any previous scenes.

I do like Dragon Ball Super, but this was the most frustrating aspect of it. While a lot of fights would be good enough to get me into it, every time something like this happened it pulled me out of it a bit. The issues with Goku and Jiren are the absolute worst it gets at least.

All I ask for is a bit of consistency within my shows. Most shows take a while before they start to stumble like this, but Dragon Ball Super does it within the same arc of the show, so you don't even have a chance to forget small details or events that happened in the past as they are all relevant to what is going on. I mean even Bleach waiting until the next arc to pull this. It's still a lot of fun to watch, but I wish they had put a bit more thought into how they were building some of these fights.
