So let’s strip this article down for what it is. Politico is pining for the days of newsprint, when word on paper suggested authority from God almighty himself. Politico is pining for the days when the media required large infrastructures to distribute information. Politico is pining for the days when someone had to consume their information in a very controlled & regulated environment - linear & non-interactive. And more than likely, this information they peddled was biased & influenced by money. And by extension, political parties.

But Politico doesn’t want to write about journalisms fall from its heavenly estate, because that would be too honest and perhaps a bit pathetic. Politico doesn’t want to write about the resentment they hold towards progress and the free flow of information across the internet either. But Politico does want to pander to a statistical study, which is basically the correlation between subscription rates & counties that Trump won. Politico does want to argue that counties without traditional media outlets are not as informed, therefore not as educated, therefore Trump won and HRC lost. Politico does want to advocate for a false dilemma, and the obvious winner in this false dilemma being the media, who would educate people and influence how they vote. How convenient.

Their monopoly on political thought is gone and now they are fighting against a decentralized system of content creators who are politically engaged, smart, critical thinkers, who have a laptop & a webcam. These content creators are not as influenced by money, and they are more inclined to be held accountable to honesty, as their brand is their very name. And if they take the path of manipulation & distortion, then there is no corporation to protect them from the loss of revenue or viewers. The content creator will simply fail, and fail much quicker, because the trust they earned with their viewers is now broken, and viewers will simply unsubscribe. Just like they unsubscribed to traditional news outlets.

There is a much simpler reason why Trump won, and the media is continuously in denial about it. And there is a reason why Politico is advocating for their false dilemma - because they want to be wanted again.

So let’s be honest, Politico. Trump thrives in certain areas for reasons that has nothing to do with you.
