If you've listened to the radio at all over the last year or so, you've no doubt heard "There's nothing holding' me back" by Shawn Mendes. It's a fairly overplayed tune, but catchy all the same, but what does the song say about its performer. An analysis of the lyrics may show strong indications that he is a cuck, or at least in a gynocentric relationship, dominated my his partner. And thought I cannot speak to the real-life Mendes' relationship, his lyrics speak volumes of his artist persona.

The lyrics are as follows:

"I wanna follow where she goes

I think about her and she knows it
I wanna let her take control
Cause everytime that she gets close, yeah"

This verse indicates that he likes the girl to make all the decisions. He also makes it clear that she knows exactly what he's thinking about at any given time and that she has power over him.

"She pulls me in enough to keep me guessing (Hmm)
And maybe I should stop and start confessing
Confessing, yeah"

She keeps him on his toes, attentive to her will and quite possibly afraid to cross her in any way.

"Oh, I've been shaking
I love it when you go crazy
You take all my inhibitions
Baby, there's nothing holdin' me back"

Admitting that he enjoys it when she loses her temper, he seemingly compliments her on motivating him to overcome difficulties.

"You take me places that tear up my reputation
Manipulate my decisions
Baby, there's nothing holdin' me back"

Stating he likes to be humiliated by his partner, he again admits he likes losing control, a typical submissive in any type of slave/master relationships.

"There's nothing holdin' me back
There's nothing holdin' me back"

The chorus once more affirms his inability to make his own choices.

"She says that she's never afraid
Just picture everybody naked
She really doesn't like to wait
Not really into hesitation"

Affirming positive feminist rhetoric to once again prove that his partner is superior to him. She doesn't get scared whereas he does.

"Pulls me in enough to keep me guessing, whoa
And maybe I should stop and start confessing
Confessing, yeah"

What does he have to confess? Perhaps he's thought about another girl and feels guilty because he is afraid of his partner.

"Oh, I've been shaking
I love it when you go crazy
You take all my inhibitions
Baby, there's nothing holdin' me back"

He once again re-assures her that he enjoys her PMS driven insanity and gets off on it.

"You take me places that tear up my reputation
Manipulate my decisions
Baby, there's nothing holdin' me back"

Once more he admits he loves it when she makes him do things that humiliate him and sees it as a way of being set free. Highly indicative of Stockholm syndrome.

"There's nothing holdin' me back"

His emasculation is a form of liberation for him.

"'Cause if we lost our minds and we took it way too far
I know we'd be alright
I know we would be alright"

Stating that no matter how insane either of them got, and how mentally corrupt, they will still be thought of as normal. A common problem with liberalism.

"If you were by my side and we stumbled in the dark

I know we'd be alright
I know we would be alright"

If they were lost in the unknown, they would be safe simply for the fact that she is with him. Being a woman means that she would know best, and he would essentially be lost without her.

"'Cause if we lost our minds and we took it way too far

I know we'd be alright
I know we would be alright"

Reassurance of liberal insanity for the effect of a chorus.

"If you were by my side and we stumbled in the dark

I know we'd be alright
We would be alright"

Feminism is the greatest, women all-powerful. Men would be useless and lost without them. Yay feminism.

"Oh, I've been shaking
I love it when you go crazy
You take all my inhibitions
Baby, there's nothing holdin' me back"

Being in an abusive relationship makes me empowered and I enjoy it quite a lot. It's freeing to have all control taken away from me.

"You take me places that tear up my reputation

Manipulate my decisions
Baby, there's nothing holdin' me back (Ouoh)"

Oh yeah, I love it when you control me, humiliate me and abuse me.

"There's nothing holdin' me back"

I have Stockholm syndrome and I love it.

"I feel so free
When you're with me
Baby"

I feel empowered by being dominated.

"Baby, there's nothing holding me back"

If these lyrics are anything to go by, Shawn Mendes may be a victim of a dominant partner, an abusive relationship and is most definitely a victim of liberalism. His lyrics are very indicative of someone who's a victim of cuckoldry and Stockholm syndrome and he is no doubt in need of help.
