Well, it depends on the time of the year when you will stumble upon this text but it is either too early or too late for All Hallows' Eve tales but as I'm addicted to horror and irony - here it goes.
It is dark, cold and windy. It is colder than it has been for the past few years. The children of the neighborhood have posted a sign when exactly they will be by as the cold is driving their parents mad and into reconsidering the whole endeavor. Everybody has been preparing the whole morning and now at 7 PM in the dark, cold and wet weather we are waiting for the little ghosts, monsters and their witch mothers to ring the bell.
While putting on my make up for the Halloween party we were going to and barely breathing in the pin-up type dress, corset and shoes I had on we heard the neighbor children ring for their treats. I was prepared - jelly worms in dirt and cake. Opening the door there was no one there. Weird I thought.
A few minutes later the doorbell rang again. No one was in the dark hallway again. A small shadow ran through the door. By now I was sure I was seeing things. Then the sound came - a small whine from the living room. In the dark under the table two golden eyes.
Well, that is ...um, help?!
I whimpered as well. The men in the house gathered in the door way.
- Right, first get the light.
The light is on and nothing can be seen. A small scratching sound follows from behind the couch.
- Get a torch!
The two eyes disappear in the dark and the torch produces only more shadows.
A baby's whine can be heard but there are no babies around...
- Well, here goes nothing...- one of the guys musters up his courage and goes in deep behind the couch and brings out a small black fur ball. She opens her yellow green eyes and whines.
She is dangling by her collar and is brought into the room with the others and presented to the sibling approving any pet acquisitions.
- No! - is his immediate response. The little dangling parcel is brought an inch closer to him and she transforms into all eyes and whines at him like a small child.
- No? - She is left on his bed where feeling the warmth she cozies-up to him. She is now shivering on his arm and staring him in the eyes.
He grabs her, hugs her tightly and demands:
- Some liver soup for her and me and you will bring her to the vet and bathe her and a blanket and hurry up.
An hour later so full of food that her little stomach was touching the floor and her little paws were in the air, she rolled and fell asleep.
I'm the lucky human of a Black cat. She adopted me on All Hallows' Eve.
Have a creepy Halloween and do mind the black cat...
