Welcome to Digital Humanism and the Infosphere

Welcome to my reflection and awareness lounge at Infosphere time, where we can take time to meditate on our lives and how we can achieve greater harmony within ourselves and with the world around us.

We are in a very stressful and oppressive time, full as we know of fears and also of anger that is building up. It was there before the pandemic, but certainly after 3 years, with the limitations and constraints imposed because of the virus, and with the many deaths, there is a growing dissatisfaction with the way things are run and the world is run at various levels.

The shadow, i.e. our destructive part, becomes more and more charged when we become rigid in our mask and it becomes completely illusory to think of freeing ourselves from it.

However, I would like us to experience this difficult period as a preparation for the future, because I am convinced that we will have to face new challenges and that in these difficulties we are maturing within ourselves new perspectives, new dynamics and new opportunities for creativity on a spiritual, cultural and political level.

I urge everyone not to dissipate this difficult time by living it only as a defeat or utter helplessness, because there is also so much more. There is the sense of powerlessness, there is depression, there is pain, but there is also hope, the desire to do and to change things. We are complex and divine human beings….. we must not forget that.

The Infosphere

The infosphere is a worrying phenomenon, as we are presented with an excessive amount of information and news in a frenetic and often distorted manner, creating a kind of ‘information terror’ that can lead us to live in a state of constant anxiety and fear. Moreover, there are elites who seek to exploit this infosphere for their own purposes, spreading false or misleading news in order to influence our opinions and decisions.

What to do?

To get out of this state of confusion and recover our awareness, there are a few things we can do:

  • Continuous learning: we must never stop trying to better understand the world around us, asking questions and raising doubts as Socrates taught us.
  • Taking breaks: we must not get carried away by the obsessive pace of our daily lives, but must take time to reflect and take stock.
  • Choose our sources of information carefully: we must not accept everything presented to us by the mainstream media, but must seek other reliable and verified sources.
  • Never be content: we must not passively accept things as they are, but must always try to do what we can to change and improve them.
  • Do not delegate our choices to others: we must take responsibility for our choices and not rely on others to decide for us.
  • Safeguard our identities: we must defend our uniqueness and originality from the flattening caused by globalisation and globalism.
  • Creating new educational models: we must work to create a real school that provides young people with the tools to understand the world and its dynamics properly.
  • Pay more attention to our inner world: we need to learn about ourselves and our spirituality, which will enable us to understand universal laws and our role in the universe.
  • Return to the traditional church: we must return to the dictates of the gospel and traditional spirituality to find guidance for us on our journey towards understanding ourselves and the world around us.

Path of rebirth

In summary, the path of rebirth to which I refer, passes through continuous learning, the ability to raise doubts and take pauses for reflection, carefully choosing sources of information, never settling and not delegating our choices to others, defending our identities and creating new educational models, paying attention to our inner world and spirituality, and returning to the traditional church.

If we can follow this path, I believe we can overcome the challenges of the present and the future and build a better world for ourselves and for future generations.

  • We can encourage people to remember this aspect of themselves and not to forget that they have the power to make a difference.
  • We can also share with them our experiences of overcoming obstacles and difficulties, to show that it is possible to overcome anything.
  • Moreover, it would not hurt to encourage them to find ways to make a difference in their lives and in the world, even in small things.
  • This could include activities such as helping others, volunteering, promoting important causes, or simply being there for someone who needs support. All these things can help create a sense of purpose and meaning, and make us feel like we have the power to change things.
  • Finally, we could encourage people to take care of themselves and their emotional and psychological well-being. This can include things like exercising, eating healthily, doing activities that make us feel good, and finding ways to manage stress and anxiety. Taking care of ourselves allows us to face challenges with greater strength and resilience.

Being Diogenes

I forgot, we must be comforted by the presence of positive regurgitations of revival such as the philosophy pertaining to technological ethics.

Information ethics examines the ethical impact of information and communication technologies. What I wish to argue is that information ethics should be based on universal principles and take into account the consequences of human actions on society and the environment. One of the most important theories lies in the connotation of information as a resource, according to which information is a valuable resource that must be managed responsibly and sustainably.

If we were able to turn our attention from the mainstream media to the many alternative sources of information focused on the centrality of man, we could touch upon a reality that too often escapes us: we are by no means alone in this epochal transformation.

Mainstream media often have a limited perspective and often present news selected to suit the interests of those who control them. In contrast, alternative information sources often offer broader and more comprehensive perspectives and can help us better understand the world we live in.

Moreover, diverting our attention to alternative sources of information can also help us discover new perspectives and develop our ability to think critically and independently. Being able to evaluate different perspectives and consider multiple sources of information helps us form more accurate opinions and judgements and make informed choices.

Exploring alternative sources of information allows us to connect with people and communities that share our interests and values, and to build meaningful relationships with them. This can help us feel less alone and make us feel part of a wider community, which can be very important especially in difficult times.

Prof. Luciano Floridi

One of these sources, unequivocally among the best, is the contributions of Prof. Luciano Floridi, the philosopher who coined the neologism Infosphere.

Prof. Luciano Floridi is undoubtedly a leading figure in the field of information philosophy, and his concept of the infosphere represents an interesting and important perspective on understanding our world today. The idea of an infosphere as a new space in which we live and interact offers us the opportunity to reflect on how we are constructing this space and how we can do so responsibly and sustainably.

A sublime mind that supports the importance of this term: ‘The Infosphere represents a new way of being together, in all areas of life: from education to business to entertainment. It poses us unknown challenges and makes the 20th century an obsolete world. It is a new space, but we have to ask ourselves: how are we building it? Are we doing it right? This means thinking about the infosphere”

In the next article, I will look at the other topic of vital importance for a path to rebirth: the School, the most important public institution in a community.
