There are many different ways to communicate with spirits, but the Ouija board has become the most recognizable. It was created in 1891 by Elijah Bond, Charles Kennard, and William H.A. Maupin; they patented the game under the name "Ouija". The name is derived from a combination of French and German words, "Oui" (yes) and "Ja" (yes).

Ouija Board has come under scrutiny for its role in causing violent deaths of children throughout history.

What Is Ouija Board?

Ouija board is a horizontal board marked with alphabetical letters, 0-9 numbers, the words "Yes," "No," "Hello" and "Goodbye," alongside different graphics and symbols.

It uses a little heart-shaped piece of wooden or plastic moveable pointer known as Planchette that slides on grooves, in response to individuals' fingers moving it to demonstrate the soul's message by explaining it on the board during ceremonial séances.

The fingers of spirits are purported to move these devices, or whatever surface they may be placed upon.

History Of Ouija Board

Ouija Board has been around since the 1800s. The First-ever board was invented by a businessman from Baltimore named Elijah Bond who noticed that his wife would spell out words using a table that he’d purchased from China. 

It was then that he decided to make a talking board, which is what the Ouija Board was called at first because it used a French and German word for yes.

Bond patented his talking board in 1891 but sold the rights to William Fuld who changed its name to Ouija Board. Ouija Board is thought to have been used since ancient Egypt. It is also referred to as a talking board, witch-board, spirit board, or simply Ouija.

Purpose of Ouija Board

Ouija Board is a simple platform that enables the communication between living people and non-living entities.

It is a popular game said to be for contacting spirits of the dead and was intended to serve as an alternative to necromancy, channeling, and other different techniques which were accepted as attempts at speaking with the deceased ones.

How Does Ouija Board Work

A session using an Ouija board can be evoked simply by asking questions about any subject that interests all those present at the time (usually yes or no) and then letting the pointer move to spell out an answer.

People place their fingers on a pointer, and it is supposed to move around the board to spell out messages from ghosts or spirits.

Dangers Of Using Ouija Board

Ouija boards are often associated with the paranormal, but there is far more to them than just spooky stories. Ouija boards are real tools for communication with spirits, and they can be extremely dangerous if used improperly.
