In either case, the zombie retains its sense of self from when it was alive but is generally considered "dead" by the living it encounters.

Zombie is a word that has been around since the 17th century. It was used to describe people who were thought to be dead but came back to life to terrorize and eat others.

In pop culture, the image of a Zombie has evolved from its origins in voodoo and Haitian folklore. The word "zombie" is not often used in voodoo or to describe a real-life necromantic ritual. The word Zombie comes from Haitian Creole, where zonbi (or zonbie) means "spirit of a dead person".

The first known written instances of anything resembling a modern zombie come from Haitian folklore, where zombies were once dead bodies reanimated through voodoo, usually to do the bidding of a sorcerer.

What Makes Zombie, A Zombie?

There are some tell-tale signs of a zombie

1) The eyes are dead, soulless - they have no depth or emotion

2) They don't blink often - zombies usually blink about 50% less than humans do

3) When they speak, they don’t make eye contact with anyone in particular

4) Their head is tilted slightly off-center, causing them to walk with a bit of a hunchback

What Caused a Person to Be a Zombie?

Although still popularly associated with the undead, there is no scientific consensus on what causes zombies.

These days zombies are more likely to come from some sort of virus or scientific experiment that went wrong.
