Shotwell Publishing was born at the Lizard’s Thicket in downtown Columbia, South Carolina, in the summer of 2015.
It was a reaction—at least in part—to the rabid anti-Southern hysteria that began sweeping the country during the build-up to and aftermath of the removal of the Confederate Battle Flag on the grounds of the South Carolina State Capitol. Our purpose at the time was to provide short, hard-hitting Southern titles at a reasonable price by employing the latest print-on-demand technology.
Since then, we have expanded to include longer works, as well as Southern Literature and Fiction selections. From our humble beginnings, we have attracted and published some of the most respected Southern authors in the world, as well as many up and comers who we fully expect will be.
We love the South—its history, traditions, and culture—and are proud of our inheritance as Southerners. Our books are a reflection of this love. For this, we make no apology. . .
