Africa

Anything cultural and political about Africa. It is high time to pay more attention to this gigantic continent, which is 3x larger than the US and contains immense resources. It is also the only continent which still experiences substantial demographic growth. Governance is catastrophically bad and corrupt, in most countries. Instead of gaining true independence, most African countries now are controlled by China. African countries really have to develop their civil societies and their understanding of classical liberalism to achieve greater individual liberty, which will be followed by greater prosperity.

This is a really interesting history lesson: History of Africa from the 16th to the 20th Century https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsBiDfoPaEw This is not a part of history that is well known. It is incredibly convoluted & definitely not as one-sided and simplistic as "anti-colonialists" believe. One of the most important lessons: the British understood very quickly that colonies were extremely expensive and that it was far better to organize trade than to rule over people.

Ah, evil Colonialism ... which gave Africa most of the useful infrastructures they still use to this day. Like in India, where the British built a huge railway network, which India almost didn't extend since their independence. It doesn't look like Colonial powers impoverished their colonies, it looks like they heavily subsidized them! https://www.zawya.com/en/business/transport-and-logistics/a-century-on-french-built-train-in-ethiopia-still-a-blessing-d750hfs9

There's a clear trend in the population density around Africa. You'll notice that most people live in the coastal areas, near big lakes and along the river banks of major rivers like the Nile. The rest of the continent has nothing but barren land.

This is a beautiful relief map of Africa - it also makes it glaringly obvious why there was almost no contact between the people of Sub-Saharan Africa and Eurasia.

The left-wing media were upset about reports that cannibalism is happening in Haiti. To be clear, they are upset about the reports, not about the cannibalism. They were outraged about the claim - never actually confirmed - that Trump had talked about "shithole countries". It's just bizarre how little they worry about what is really happening in those countries they seem to care so much about, which, without any racism, can be truly horrible for those forced to live there. I'm just saying let's try not to import those who would do such things...

Ah, South Africa - about 25'000 homicides per year, but don't worry, it's perfectly safe, tourists only get murdered on rare occasions... 🙄 Under the Apartheid regime, the number of yearly homicides was around 800, including police violence. The communist ANC regime murdered...See more

It's actually not THAT bad - there's a lot more progress than this. There are areas around Africa that have made enormous progress, e.g. Ghana, Rwanda, Namibia etc. But the massive decline of South Africa is extremely concerning. It seems like way too many black people, once in power, just cannot control their corruption, which is so detrimental to their societies...

Security check in Africa - they ask a male soldier to feel up the women. The worst part? The women don't even mind. They seem to think that it's hilarious... 🤔 Wait - why do they even have separate lines?
