First time to see a Ruff (Calidris pugnax) in my first time on the spot that will soon become one of my favorite photography spots. The male is much larger than the female and it has in the breeding plumage colored head turfs, bare orange facial skin, extensive black on the breast, and a large collar of ornamental feather. It has an elaborate courting display that implies erecting the colorful head and neck feathers. It is among the small percentage of birds in which the male has well-marked and inherited variations in plumage and mating behavior. I wish one day I will be able to document the mating display. 05.2019 #birdwatching #myphoto #photography #wildlifephotography #nature
