They are simply unidentified flying object. In some cases they are referred to as any perceived aerial phenomenon that human understanding cannot immediately identify or explain. Like most UFO related movies that try to explain their existence on our earth, they simply atmospheric phenomena. The question of whether they are real or imagination is debatable but i will say they are real considering certain amount of money are dedicated as budget for it.
