The Lakota tribe, a sub-group of the larger Native American Sioux nation, are prominent in the public eye. They are the people of the American Great Plains and Rocky Mountains who hunted buffalo and fought the U.S. cavalry from horseback. The Lakota tribe are among the people who held out the longest in the fight against the death of their people and the loss of their heritage. Today Lakota and Sioux people survive and are rebuilding their cultural heritage.
