What's really behind Russia & the West fighting in Syria? Turns out it's all about oil, or more specifically about 2 rival gas pipeline projects. Russia (a main supplier of energy for Europe) backs a pipeline going through Iran and Syria. The U.S. (since the early 2000s) has backed a natural gas pipeline that would bring Qatar gas through Saudi Arabia, Syria and Turkey, hitting Russia economically and requiring regime change in Syria. Robert Kennedy Jr. and Thom Hartmann explain this rivalry in detail (video link below) and how gas/oil has been fueling recent Middle East wars. This back story, rarely mentioned by the mainstream media, helps to explain why the West has aligned with Sunni dictatorships like Saudi Arabia, wants regime change in Syria and seeks to present both Iran and Russia as threats. The other issue not discussed enough is US past interventions by the CIA (and support of dictatorships), which has created blowback and radical Islamic extremism (Al Qaeda & ISIL). Robert Kennedy Jr provides more details in the article under the video.
