José Manuel Ramírez ha trabajado como fotógrafo por casi treinta años. Viajando alrededor del mundo y viviendo en diferentes países como: Estados Unidos, Alemania, Portugal, Japón, durante cuatro años ha residido en China. En la actualidad reside en Japón desde 2012. Como fotógrafo freelance, ha trabajado con distintas ONGs, entre otras con Greenpeace, Cruz Roja, Unicef..., ha colaborado con agencias fotográficas como Staff, Efe, Europa Press, IPA Press, y con periódicos como El País o Bild Zeitung. Desde 2007 hasta el 2010, fue corresponsal y director en China de la oficina de IPA press. Es licenciado en Antropología Cultural por la Universidad de Sevilla, su fotografía es el producto de su interés social tanto como fotógrafo como antropólogo. A primeros del año 2012 mostró su trabajo fotográfico, “China cara a cara”, una colección de retratos de su estancia en China, en la ciudad de Sevilla. Durante 2011 y 2012 realizó el proyecto “Mercaderes”, expuesto en la ciudad de Sevilla. A finales del 2012 se traslada a Japón donde en colaboración con el Instituto Cervantes realizará cursos de fotografía. “Jondo”, su exposición sobre flamenco español se expuso en febrero de 2018 en la Embajada de España. Dicha exposición tuvo una segunda parte sobre el flamenco japonés que será expuesta en España a finales del año 2019.

As a freelance photographer, he has worked with different NGOs, among others with Greenpeace, Red Cross, Unicef ..., he has collaborated with photographic agencies such as Staff, Efe, Europa Press, IPA Press, and with newspapers like El País or Bild Zeitung. From 2007 to 2010, he was the China correspondent and director of the IPA press office. He has a degree in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Seville, his photography is the product of his social interest both as a photographer and as an anthropologist. At the beginning of 2012 he showed his photographic work, “China face to face”, a collection of portraits of his stay in China, in the city of Seville. During 2011 and 2012 he carried out the project “Mercaderes”, exhibited in the city of Seville. At the end of 2012 he moved to Japan where, in collaboration with the Cervantes Institute, he will take photography courses. “Jondo”, his exhibition on Spanish flamenco was exhibited in February 2018 at the Spanish Embassy. This exhibition had a second part about Japanese flamenco that will be exhibited in Spain at the end of 2019.
